Despite carrying the word "terminal", Egina is not a commercial port but an offshore crude-production facility roughly 150 km off Nigeria in the Gulf of Guinea. A floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in about 1,600 m of water gathers 44 subsea wells and stores up to 2.3 million barrels, yielding around 200,000 barrels per day of light-to-medium sweet crude. Cargo handling is limited to crude transfer onto shuttle tankers — there are no container, breakbulk or RoRo operations, and no hinterland connections exist at an offshore field. Associated gas is piped to the Nigeria LNG plant near Port Harcourt. For forwarders, Egina matters only to crude buyers; conventional freight, customs and import-export clearance run through Nigeria's commercial gateways at Lagos (Apapa and Tin Can Island), Onne and Port Harcourt.
