On the European bank of the Dardanelles, opposite the city of Çanakkale, Eceabat is a small Gallipoli-peninsula town whose harbour works essentially as a passenger and car-ferry slip. Gestaş runs the crossing to Çanakkale on the Asian shore roughly every hour, a trip of some 20 to 30 minutes. Since the Çanakkale 1915 suspension bridge opened in 2022, most through traffic now bypasses the town entirely. Eceabat handles no containers, breakbulk or commercial customs clearance; its only freight function is accompanied trucks and cars using the ferry locally. The peninsula is served by coastal roads with no rail link to the hinterland. Sea and container cargo in the Marmara region should be routed via Çanakkale, Bandırma or Gemlik instead.
