Pleasure craft and a historic 1851 lighthouse now define Eagle Harbor, a small natural harbour of refuge on the Keweenaw Peninsula's Lake Superior shore. In the 1800s its two docks shipped unprocessed copper, but the shallow, 1877-dredged channel never suited modern vessels and it carries no commercial cargo today. Bulk and breakbulk shipments in the region move instead through the Keweenaw Waterway (Houghton/Hancock) or the Great Lakes ports of Marquette and Duluth-Superior.
