Seafood, not containers, moves through Duong Dong: it is the chief fishing port and main town of Vietnam's Phu Quoc island, on the west coast facing the Gulf of Thailand. The river-mouth harbour shelters the local fishing fleet and is best known for its night market and sunsets, but it has no multipurpose terminals for container, RoRo or international breakbulk traffic. The island's commercial cargo and the bulk of its passenger movements run through An Thoi International Port about 30 km south, which handles 500,000–700,000 tonnes and around 360,000 passengers a year. Ferry and freight links to the mainland also use Bai Vong, along with the ports of Rach Gia and Ha Tien. Containerised cargo bound for Phu Quoc is typically staged through Cat Lai in Ho Chi Minh City.
