Built around the North Sea energy industry, Dundee has positioned itself as a base for offshore wind, platform decommissioning and oil-and-gas support rather than general container trade. As Forth Ports' most northerly facility on the Firth of Tay, it gained a £10 million, 300-metre heavy-lift quay rated at 80 tonnes per square metre with a minimum depth of nine metres. As a founding partner of the Forth & Tay Decommissioning Alliance it carries out topside disposal and recycling of redundant offshore structures. Inch Cape Offshore has reserved the port's Renewables Hub from March 2025 to March 2026 as a pre-assembly base, following completion of the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) wind farm construction phase in 2025. Conventional cargoes run to forest products, agricultural commodities and oil-related goods, but there is no scheduled container liner service. The A90 and rail links connect the quays to the Scottish hinterland. For boxes, shippers turn to Grangemouth, while Aberdeen remains the reference point for oil-and-gas logistics.
