170,000 square metres of marshalling yard with fully verified ground and quay loadings, plus a 300-metre heavy-lift quay rated at 80 tonnes per square metre in at least nine metres of water, make Dundee (UN/LOCODE GB DUN) Scotland's first purpose-built offshore wind base rather than a general cargo port. Forth Ports' most northerly facility on the Firth of Tay is currently pre-assembling the 1.1 GW Inch Cape wind farm: the first turbine components landed in early August 2026 aboard the heavy transport vessel Bravewind, with near-weekly deliveries by six vessels running to late September, and Cadeler's installation vessel Wind Mover due to carry turbines offshore in batches of four from November 2026. More than 130 people work the yard on component handling, assembly and commissioning. As a founding partner of the Forth & Tay Decommissioning Alliance, the port also dismantles and recycles redundant offshore topsides. Conventional cargoes run to forest products, agricultural commodities and oil-related goods, but there is no scheduled container liner service. The A90 and rail links connect the quays to the Scottish hinterland; for boxes shippers turn to Grangemouth, while Aberdeen remains the reference for oil-and-gas logistics.
