Passengers, vehicles and domestic Ro-Ro freight, rather than deep-sea containers, define traffic at the Port of Dumaguete. Managed by the Philippine Ports Authority, it is the main maritime gateway to Negros Oriental and one of the busier hubs in the Visayas. Ferry and fast-craft operators including Cokaliong, Montenegro Lines, Lite Ferries, OceanJet, FastCat and 2GO link it to Cebu, Tagbilaran, Siquijor, Dapitan and Zamboanga. With a cargo pier of only about 3.4 m depth, the port is unsuited to ocean-going container ships, so international container shipments for the province are routed via Cebu. The centrally located terminal on Rizal Boulevard connects to the island's road network for onward distribution.
