The DTSE/GEGUA terminal in Guanabara Bay near Rio de Janeiro is a dedicated oil and products facility, not a commercial cargo or container port. Operated by Transpetro, a Petrobras subsidiary, its installations on Ilha d'Água handle crude oil, petroleum products, LPG and LNG, chiefly to supply and evacuate the Duque de Caxias refinery (REDUC). Links to the mainland and the refinery run through submarine pipelines rather than road or rail cargo terminals. Loading and discharge take place at piers and mooring berths straight into tankers and barges. There is no container, breakbulk or general-cargo customs handling here. Shippers needing containers or general cargo in the Rio area use the Port of Rio de Janeiro or Itaguaí (Sepetiba).
