More than 400 tankers call at Donges each year across seven berths – three importing crude oil, four exporting refined petroleum products. Located on the southern bank of the Loire estuary, the port serves France's second-largest refinery, operated by TotalEnergies, which processes around 11 million tonnes of crude annually with 2.2 million m³ of storage. Donges alone accounts for over half of all traffic at the Nantes-Saint-Nazaire port complex. Hinterland distribution runs via road, rail loading depots and two product pipelines feeding Rennes, central and eastern France as far as Melun and Metz. The port handles no containers, reefers or general cargo; those move through the nearby Montoir-de-Bretagne terminal. For forwarders with tanker, dangerous-goods or energy-sector project cargo, Donges is a specialised call, while container shipments route via Montoir or Saint-Nazaire.
