Through the short Bristol Bay summer, Dillingham's dock crews unload millions of pounds of salmon as the region's gillnet fleet works the Nushagak run. Dillingham (US DLG) is the only sheltered harbour in Bristol Bay, offering moorage for more than 400 gillnetters and set-netters alongside processing plants and fuel supply. Because the town sits off Alaska's road network, dry cargo arrives by barge — including Alaska Marine Lines service to western Alaska — rather than by truck.
