Despite appearing on port lists, Dhekelia is not a commercial cargo harbour at all but a single-purpose energy berth on Cyprus's south-east coast, about 7 km north-east of Larnaca. Only tankers moor here, on three buoys, discharging heavy fuel oil through submarine pipelines to the adjacent 460 MW Dhekelia power station run by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus. Roughly 517,000 tonnes of fuel oil arrive each year, with limits of around 225 m length, 50,000 dwt and 12.5 m draft. There are no container, breakbulk or general-cargo customs operations on site. With the pipeline feeding straight into the power plant, the terminal has no conventional hinterland for trade goods. Forwarders moving boxes or project cargo use Limassol or Larnaca instead, and Vasilikos for other energy and bulk flows.
