Agribusiness group Bunge runs its only port-based oilseed crushing plant in the Central Gulf Export Corridor at Destrehan, on the Mississippi River about 30 km upstream of New Orleans. This is firmly a dry-bulk and agricultural export facility, not a container gateway. Inland reach runs through the Mississippi barge network, Class I rail and the Interstate system into the US grain belt. Shippers needing boxes or breakbulk turn instead to New Orleans (Napoleon Avenue) or Gulfport.
