At about 3.2 million TEU in 2024 – up from some 2.3 million in 2023 – Dammam's King Abdulaziz Port is the largest container port on the Arabian Gulf and one of the busiest in the Middle East; in January 2025 it set a new monthly record of 215,179 TEU, beating the previous mark of 211,202 TEU from July 2023. Since operations began in 2015, Saudi Global Ports has handled a cumulative total of over 15 million TEU at King Abdulaziz Port, and ongoing expansion works aim to lift annual capacity to roughly 7.5 million TEU by 2050. Customs clearance runs through Saudi Arabia's ZATCA authority, making Dammam the principal import gateway for the east and centre of the country.
