Turbine blades line the quays at Cuxhaven (DE CUX), where the Elbe meets the North Sea and offshore wind has become a defining business. The port concentrates on two strengths: roll-on/roll-off traffic through the Cuxport terminal, with two ramps and five berths, and offshore wind logistics, handling around 4,500 turbine components a year. The German Offshore Industry Centre offers heavy-lift terminals right on the Elbe, including a 500-tonne gantry crane and large storage areas for project cargo. Since February 2025 a roughly €300 million expansion has been adding three more berths over about 1,250 metres of quay for wind-power logistics. Vehicles, steel, breakbulk and the odd container are worked here, but Cuxhaven is not a scheduled container-line port. As a German North Sea port it sits inside the EU single market, so clearance and transit follow Union rules, supported by road and rail to the hinterland. For pure container volumes or large car-handling operations, Bremerhaven and Hamburg are the natural alternatives, with Emden a further offshore-wind option.
