In 1802 United Empire Loyalists settled along the Ottawa River and founded what is today Cumberland, now a residential district of the City of Ottawa rather than a working cargo port. Its wharf, with roughly 1.8 m alongside, supports the seasonal Masson–Cumberland vehicle ferry across to Quebec and recreational craft, offering no container, breakbulk or customs facilities. Freight relevance for forwarders is therefore limited; ocean cargo and customs clearance for the region run through the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Port of Montréal.
