Dungeness crab, rockfish, shrimp and tuna are what move across the docks at Crescent City, a fishing harbour on California's far north coast in Del Norte County. Around eighty commercial vessels work out of the inner boat basin, backed by fish processing and storage, and the port lands the largest share of California's Dungeness crab. For container or general-cargo shipping it is of little use: a pier depth of roughly 3.4 metres and the absence of box-handling gear leave it serving fishing and recreational craft. Routine international customs clearance for overseas cargo is not established here. Container freight for the region is routed through Humboldt Bay (Eureka) or the larger San Francisco Bay ports.
