A 15-mile, 37-foot-deep channel links Coos Bay to the Pacific, feeding Oregon's main coastal seaport and its forest-products berths. Roseburg Forest Products runs the wood-chip terminal on a 1,000-foot berth, while the Dolphin terminal handles in-water log loading; together with aggregate rock they move close to 2 million tons a year. A container terminal is planned with developer NorthPoint on the North Spit, but it is not yet operating, so Coos Bay today is a bulk and forest-products port rather than a box hub. Rail and road connect the hinterland. Wood chips, logs and stone are the staples, not containerised freight. Shippers needing container services use Portland or the Puget Sound ports for now.
