Long the shipping point for Argentina's orange country, Concordia in north-eastern Entre Ríos built its port around citrus and cereals rather than containers. Set on the Uruguay River opposite Salto in Uruguay, it serves as a transfer point onto the shallow-draft vessels that work the upper Uruguay, with cargo bound for Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and overseas. Together with Salto it marks the last navigable port before the Salto Chico reefs and the Salto Grande Dam halt river traffic. A quay depth of only about two metres confines operations to small craft, and no container-line service is confirmed here. Road and rail serve the surrounding citrus belt well. Ocean cargo moves through the deeper port of Concepción del Uruguay, with Nueva Palmira handling bulk and grain.
