Eucalyptus logs – more than from any other Argentine port – along with sawn timber, soybeans, rice, wheat and maize make up the trade at Concepción del Uruguay, the most important port on the Río Uruguay. Working since 1910, it is the country's only ocean-capable multimodal port on this river, spread over about 18 hectares with more than 600 m of quays and 23 berths split between general cargo, reefer, cereals and fuel. Some container traffic, sand and gravel round out the cargo mix. A channel of roughly 4.9 m limits callers to feeder and handysize vessels. Road and rail link a hinterland covering Entre Ríos and the wider Mesopotamia region, and the port also draws cargo from Paraguay and Brazil. Deep-draught ocean vessels and larger container volumes route instead via Buenos Aires or Nueva Palmira in Uruguay.
