Petroterminal de Panamá (PTP) runs Chiriqui Grande, the Caribbean terminus of the Trans-Panama Pipeline rather than a general-cargo harbour. Known as the Atlantic Terminal, it sits on the Laguna de Chiriquí roughly 214 km west of the Panama Canal and handles crude oil through SBM and CALM buoys that accommodate Very Large Crude Carriers unable to transit the canal. Two tank farms hold more than 7 million barrels, feeding a 130 km pipeline to the Pacific terminal at Puerto Armuelles with a throughput of up to 860,000 barrels per day. The facility has no container, breakbulk or reefer infrastructure and serves the energy trade exclusively. Forwarders moving boxed cargo should route via Colón/Manzanillo (MIT) on the Caribbean side or Balboa on the Pacific.
