# Chignik (US KCL)

**UN/LOCODE:** US KCL
**Country:** United States
**Water Body:** North Pacific Ocean
**Harbor Size:** Very Small
**Harbor Type:** Coastal (Natural)
**GPS:** 56.3000, -158.4000

Chignik, on the south side of the Alaska Peninsula about 400 km south-west of Kodiak, is built around fishing – salmon, halibut, cod and crab. It is one of Alaska's oldest commercial salmon fisheries, and a cannery still operates here. The harbour therefore serves the seafood economy – landing, processing and supplying the small community – rather than container or general-cargo traffic, which is not confirmed. There is no road or rail link to a hinterland; resupply arrives by barge or air. For consolidated freight and onward distribution, Kodiak is the nearest larger port, with Sand Point an option further south-west.
