Where copper ore and china clay once left Cornwall by sea, tall ships and film crews now occupy the water at Charlestown (UN/LOCODE GB CHF), built by Charles Rashleigh between 1791 and 1801 and preserved as the last open Georgian harbour in Britain within the UNESCO-listed Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape. Commercial cargo handling has effectively ceased; the harbour instead berths historic vessels such as the tall ship Kajsamoor and has served as a filming location for Poldark, Taboo and Bait. Freight relevance today is limited, with the working china clay port of Fowey, about 25 kilometres to the west, handling the cargo Charlestown once did.
