Founded in 1783 as a royal naval arsenal on the Gulf of Naples, Castellammare di Stabia remains a working Fincantieri shipyard rather than a cargo-handling harbour. The site specialises in shipbuilding, repair and outfitting — including large yachts and refit work — and falls under the ADSP Mar Tirreno Centrale port authority. It does not run container, dry-bulk or RoRo liner services. Hinterland links are by road into the Naples conurbation, but the quays are configured for shipyard output, not commercial freight. Forwarders shipping containers or breakbulk in the Naples area use the nearby ports of Naples or Salerno, both with established liner calls.
