Operated chiefly by Marsa Maroc and DP World, Casablanca is Morocco's leading multipurpose port and one of the largest artificial harbours in the world. It handles more than 21.3 million tonnes a year — roughly 38 % of the country's maritime traffic — across dedicated container, multipurpose, RoRo and minerals terminals. Container capacity reaches about 1.3 million TEU across the port's terminals (including TC3PC). Beyond boxes, the port ships phosphates, cereals, sugar and citrus, underlining its role in Morocco's import and export trade rather than transhipment. Rail links via ONCF and motorways connect the quays to the Casablanca-Settat industrial region. Customs and trade formalities run through Morocco's customs administration (ADII). For pure container transhipment, however, Tanger Med on the Mediterranean is now the dominant national hub. Bulk phosphate and heavy-cargo flows can alternatively use Jorf Lasfar, while Mohammedia handles petroleum.
