Roughly 450 vessels call each year at Cap-Haïtien, Haiti's second-busiest port, on the country's northern coast close to the Dominican border. Cap Terminal S.A. has run the port's only full-service container terminal since 1998 and holds ISPS certification, with cranes rated from 18 to 225 tons, reefer plugs and container storage. The quays handle general cargo, project shipments, RoRo and heavy equipment, with about three container ships weekly and two bulk carriers monthly. Carriers including CMA CGM, King Ocean and Antillean link the port to Caribbean transshipment networks, while fruit and coffee rank among the main exports and raw materials and second-hand goods dominate imports. A dry port with 3,000 TEU capacity is under construction some ten kilometres inland to ease road-based hinterland clearance. For deep-sea connections, forwarders often route through Port-au-Prince or the Caucedo hub in the Dominican Republic.
