Once a British oil port where the Lobitos Oilfield Company shipped crude from its own pier in the early 1900s, Caleta Lobitos today is mainly an artisanal fishing village and surf spot north of Talara in Peru's Piura region. The open roadstead carries little commercial freight, even though offshore oil activity still marks the coastline. There is no liner, container or general-cargo handling at the anchorage. For commercial shipments, Talara and the container port of Paita are the practical choices in the region.
