More than a cruise stop, the port of the Bay of Cádiz (ES CAD) is a growing multipurpose port on Spain's Atlantic coast, around 100 kilometres from the Strait of Gibraltar. From January to August 2026 it handled 3.876 million tonnes, up 12% year on year, led by solid bulk at 1.576 million tonnes (+46.8%); liquid bulk fell 14%, while container traffic edged down 3.2%. The existing container terminal works three 40-tonne cranes along 600 metres of quay for around 200,000 TEU per year; Phase II was 88% complete in early 2026 and will push capacity further, with plans to connect to Spain's main rail network. Around 7,500 metres of total quay handle containers, dry and liquid bulk, roll-on/roll-off services to the Canary Islands and fuel supply. With 218 cruise calls and 410,024 passengers by August 2026, up 18.8% year on year, Cádiz ranks among Spain's leading cruise ports. The Navantia yard runs one of Europe's larger dry docks for ship repair and conversion, while road and rail link the port to Andalusia and the river port of Seville. For high container volumes or transshipment, nearby Algeciras offers far greater scale.
