A record of nearly 1.5 million tonnes in 2024 marked the high point for Cabedelo, the only seaport in the Brazilian state of Paraíba, set where the Paraíba river meets the South Atlantic. Bulk dominates: fuel, grain, malt, sugar, fertiliser and petroleum coke – with petcoke alone accounting for about 390,000 tonnes in 2024. Container traffic is marginal, and shippers moving containerised cargo generally look elsewhere. The port is run by Docas da Paraíba, which is improving access for larger vessels through approved dredging and a new primary (customs) zone. Road connections on the BR-101 highway link it to the Paraíba hinterland and neighbouring states. For container services, Suape and Pecém are the practical alternatives.
