Crumbling bunkhouses and a derelict cannery on Princess Royal Island are what remain of Butedale, a British Columbia company town founded in 1911 and abandoned since the 1970s. Now a ghost town along the Inside Passage, it has no commercial freight role – no container, breakbulk or scheduled cargo handling. The ruins are reachable essentially only by boat, floatplane or helicopter. For genuine sea freight in the region, Prince Rupert with its container and bulk traffic and Kitimat are the relevant ports.
