Bushehr (IR BUZ), Iran's principal commercial port in the Persian Gulf, processed roughly 3.15 million tonnes a year under normal conditions — containers, dry bulk, petrochemicals and reefer on seven berths at 7.5 to 8 metres depth. The Strait of Hormuz has been largely closed since 28 February 2026; a brief US-Iran reopening agreement in June 2026 collapsed in early July, and on 14 July 2026 the United States reimposed a naval blockade of Iranian ports including Bushehr. On 9 September 2026 a US airstrike struck the perimeter of the Bushehr nuclear plant. By 18 September 2026, only around 8 ships a day transited the strait versus a normal 85, and no regular commercial traffic is recorded at the port. Brent crude stands at approximately USD 104/barrel as a result of the disruption. Iran has ruled out talks with Washington and a proposed Iran-Gulf states corridor meeting has been postponed. The IMO counts 78 maritime incidents and 21 seafarer deaths since the conflict began. For Persian Gulf cargo, Bandar Abbas (Shahid Rajaee) and Bandar Imam Khomeini remain the main Iranian alternatives — themselves severely constrained.
