The Nigerian Ports Authority has put Burutu back on its agenda, launching quay restoration, underwater corrosion surveys and a vessel traffic system in 2025 to reawaken this Niger Delta river port. A century ago it was a thriving railway-and-river terminal under the United Africa Company; silting, decayed quays and poor road access later silenced most of its trade. Until the works mature, its cargo relevance stays limited. Shippers moving containers, project cargo or general goods through the Delta rely on Warri, Koko, Onne and the Lagos terminals at Apapa and Tin Can.
