Built to ship the citrus harvest of the Castelló plain, Burriana thrived in the early twentieth century as an orange-export port before that commercial trade faded. Today the harbour is given over to fishing, a large marina, ship repair and aquaculture rather than general cargo. Its entrance carries about 7 m of water — enough for trawlers and yachts, not for modern container tonnage. Forwarders handling containers, reefer citrus or bulk turn to nearby PortCastelló, some 10 km north, and to Valencia, both offering customs clearance and liner services. Road links run via the AP-7 motorway and the N-340.
