Serving the chemical and heavy-industry cluster of ChemCoast Park Brunsbüttel, the Elbehafen sits where the Lower Elbe meets the Kiel Canal and ranks among the high-performance multi-purpose ports of the Hamburg metropolitan region. Operator Brunsbüttel Ports GmbH (SCHRAMM group) handles dry and liquid bulk, general cargo and heavy or project loads, including wind-turbine components. A fairway depth of about 12.5 metres admits sizeable seagoing vessels, while a trimodal link by road, rail, sea and inland waterway connects the quays to international markets. The site has also become a national import point for liquefied natural gas through a floating LNG terminal. For containerised and pure liner services, however, nearby Hamburg remains the reference gateway.
