As Barbados's only commercial seaport and one of the most important container gateways in the Eastern Caribbean, Bridgetown (BB BGI) handles the island's full import and export flow. Operated by Barbados Port Inc. (BPI), the port turns around roughly 90,000 TEU per year alongside dry bulk (sugar, grain), break-bulk, reefer cargo and a substantial cruise trade. In May 2026 Berth 6 was commissioned, adding berth capacity for larger container vessels. Bridgetown also serves as a major Eastern Caribbean cruise hub; the port complex includes the main tide-independent harbour, a container terminal, the Bridgetown Cruise Terminals Ltd. facility, and separate areas for break-bulk, RoRo and bulk. Container liner services are provided primarily by CMA CGM, Seaboard Marine and MSC. Hinterland is road-based and limited by the island's geography.
