Operated by NorthSea Terminal under the Port of Grenland authority, Brevik is the region's principal general-cargo facility, anchored by the adjacent Norcem (Heidelberg Materials) cement works. Sitting at the meeting point of the Eidanger and Frier fjords about 10 km south of Porsgrunn, the terminal handles cement, breakbulk, project cargo and short-sea containers across 100,000 m² of open storage plus around 1,200 m² of covered warehousing. An on-dock rail connection and direct access to the national road network give it solid multimodal hinterland reach into Norway and the wider Nordic region. Regular short-sea services link Brevik with Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Sweden. Since summer 2025 the adjacent plant has run Brevik CCS, the cement industry's first full-scale carbon-capture facility (designed for about 400,000 t CO2 a year); the liquefied CO2 is shipped out via Brevik for permanent storage beneath the North Sea. For deep-sea container volumes, shippers typically route via Larvik or Oslo.
