Deep in the Niger Delta oil province of Bayelsa State, where the Brass River reaches the Gulf of Guinea, the Brass Oil Terminal works purely as a crude export point. It loads Brass River grade, a light sweet crude of about 40.1° API and 0.18% sulphur, through two single-point mooring buoys backed by storage of roughly 3,558,000 barrels, with cargoes bound mainly for Europe and North America. Export has long run through the joint venture of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (an Eni venture) and NNPC, with production averaging close to 100,000 b/d in 2020. This is an open roadstead with offshore tanker loading; it handles no containers, general cargo or RoRo. Pipeline disruptions have repeatedly forced periods of force majeure on shipments. Forwarders with boxed or project cargo turn instead to Onne, with its Oil & Gas Free Zone, or to the Bonny terminal.
