Around 2.6 million tonnes move through Braila each year across more than 25 berths on the left bank of the Danube, some 170 km inland from the Black Sea. Grain shipped ex silo dominates the trade, supported by a depot of roughly 25,000 tonnes, with timber, steel, machinery and general cargo worked by shore cranes and floating gear. Operators including Hercules Brăila, Trans Europe Port, Cerealcom and Romanel concentrate on agricultural exports, while steel and machinery arrive as imports. Sitting on Pan-European Corridor VII, the port links to its hinterland by road, rail and inland barge. Containerised and deep-sea traffic is effectively absent, so forwarders route such cargo via nearby Galați or the Black Sea port of Constanța.
