Propane, butane and ethylene — not containers — defined the cargo profile of Braefoot Bay, a private liquefied-gas loading terminal on Scotland's Firth of Forth jointly owned by ExxonMobil and Shell UK. The facility received its products by pipeline from the Mossmorran complex about 7 km inland and loaded them onto gas and product tankers at an open roadstead, handling no general cargo, breakbulk or containers. ExxonMobil's Fife Ethylene Plant ceased production for good on 2 February 2026, and the last gas tanker departed Braefoot Bay in April 2026 bound for Antwerp. The neighbouring Shell-operated NGL plant continues, but ethane once piped to Mossmorran is now fed into the national gas grid, so loading activity at the terminal has fallen sharply. Hinterland movements run through plant pipelines and road links rather than public port logistics.
