Braefoot Bay Terminal on the Firth of Forth in Fife, Scotland, is a specialist LPG loading facility rather than a general cargo port. It was operated jointly by ExxonMobil (67%) and Shell (33%), with throughput driven chiefly by the adjacent ExxonMobil Fife Ethylene Plant, which ceased operations on 2 February 2026. The last LPG tanker loaded at the terminal in April 2026, bound for Antwerp. Full decommissioning of the ethylene plant is expected by early 2028. Shell's NGL (natural gas liquids) loading jetty at the terminal is unaffected and remains operational. For freight moving LPG and petrochemicals on Scotland's east coast, the practical alternatives are Grangemouth and, further south, the terminal infrastructure at Teesside and Humberside. Forwarders should note that bulk LPG flows linked to the Fife plant have permanently ceased; any affected shipments require rerouting.
