Around 8.2 billion cubic metres a year – that is the regasification capacity of the BOTAŞ LNG import terminal at Marmara Ereğlisi following its recent expansion, with throughput exceeding 22 million cubic metres per day. Commissioned in 1994 on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara, the plant stores imported LNG in three tanks of roughly 85,000 m³ each, returns it to gas to feed the national grid, and also loads LNG onto road tankers. A reinforced jetty now allows large LNG carriers to berth. This is a specialised gas terminal with no container, breakbulk or RoRo handling whatsoever. Forwarders engage with the site only for LNG and gas-related logistics. For containers or conventional cargo around Marmara, Ambarlı (Istanbul) and Asyaport (Tekirdağ) are the relevant ports.
