Around 700,000 tonnes a year and some 550 vessel calls pass through Boston (GB BOS), a small tidal port on the Wash in Lincolnshire, on England's east coast. Owned by the Victoria Group since 2004, it trades mainly in agribulk and break-bulk through docks fitted with tide gates: grain and recyclables outbound, steel and timber inbound, alongside forest products and paper. It is not a container port — boxed cargo moves through the region's deep-sea terminals instead. The hinterland extends by road and rail into the West Midlands and beyond. Since the fourth quarter of 2025, the wet dock has been closed for the Boston Barrier flood-protection works; reopening is expected in late 2026, temporarily reducing available berth capacity. Practical alternatives are Immingham and Hull on the Humber, plus nearby King's Lynn.
