England's north-east offshore wind and subsea industry has a working base at Blyth, a Northumberland trust port founded in 1882 and sitting midway between Aberdeen and Great Yarmouth. It specialises in offshore energy support — clients include GE Renewable Energy, Subsea7, TechnipFMC and Saipem — with heavy-lift experience up to 300 tonnes. Alongside this it is a capable bulk port for dry, liquid and breakbulk cargo, strong in aggregates, agribulks, biomass and liquid bulks, turning round more than 15,000 tonnes per 24 hours. A tidal deep-water port with no locks, it takes vessels up to roughly 50,000 DWT and 220 m, served by three ISPS-secure terminals and over 65,000 m² of warehousing. In 2026 it announced a roughly £100 million expansion of Battleship Wharf, with deepened berths for next-generation offshore-wind installation vessels, and took on operatorship of the new Cambois Dock at Northumberland Energy Park, part of its Energy Central cluster of more than 50 businesses. Blyth runs no scheduled container liner service — boxes move through Teesport (PD Ports) or the Port of Tyne. For offshore wind, project and bulk cargo on England's north-east coast, however, it is a well-established choice.
