Guinea-Bissau ranks among Africa's largest cashew exporters, and almost the entire crop ships out through Bissau, the river port on the Geba. Alongside sacks of raw cashew, the quays handle imports of rice, fuel, foodstuffs and machinery across berths for general cargo, containers and oil products. During the May-to-September export season congestion builds, and CMA CGM has at times served the port with its Bijagós shuttle using vessels of about 1,700 TEU on a fortnightly call.
