Bananas for export, plus pineapples, rice, fish, salt, coconut and palm oil traded through the surrounding region, give Benti a distinctly agricultural cargo profile. Located at the mouth of the Mellacorée River in western Guinea, a few kilometres from the Atlantic, this naturally sheltered deep-draft river port can accommodate large tankers and cargo ships. Alongside fruit, it handles bauxite and petroleum products — diesel, gasoline and Bunker C pumped through hoses — backed by tank storage including roughly 10,000 m³ for Bunker C. In 2020 the Guinean government decided to build an oil terminal here for vessels too large to berth at Conakry. For containerised trade, however, Conakry remains the country's principal gateway, while Kamsar leads on bauxite exports.
