At 1,250 feet of dock, more than 85,000 square feet of covered storage and 25 acres of upland, the Bellingham Shipping Terminal (US BLI) in Washington State is a full breakbulk and clean-bulk handler. Operated under a service contract by Ports America, it works steel, inbound forest products, aluminium ingots, modules and oversized or project cargo, much of it trucked onward to Canada. No scheduled container line calls; boxed freight routes through Seattle and Tacoma under the Northwest Seaport Alliance. The adjoining Bellingham Cold Storage, at about 125 million pounds, is the largest portside cold store on the US West Coast and anchors the seafood and frozen-cargo trade. A 2023–2025 modernization and Whatcom Waterway dredging lift the terminal to roughly 34 feet of draft, while new shore power lets vessels berth without diesel generators. The cruise and ferry terminal is the southern terminus of the Alaska Marine Highway and links the San Juan Islands. For temperature-controlled and project consignments Bellingham is a credible specialist, with containers handled via Seattle and Tacoma.
