Tanks, turbines, grain and timber define Beaumont far more than containers. Sitting on the Sabine-Neches Waterway in south-east Texas, it is the world's busiest port for moving US military equipment, the nation's largest strategic military outload port and a consistent top-ten US port by tonnage, handling breakbulk, heavy lift, project cargo, military sealift, dry and liquid bulk. In FY 2023/24 it moved roughly 11.1 million short tons. A 3.5-million-bushel grain elevator, loading up to 80,000 bushels per hour, anchors much of the bulk trade, alongside forest products, bagged goods, aggregates and metals. Hinterland links run on BNSF and Union Pacific rail plus interstate connections toward Houston. Beaumont is not the place for routine container volumes — those move through nearby Houston — but for out-of-gauge project cargo, RoRo military equipment and agricultural bulk it is a specialised, well-proven option. Recently completed work — an $85 million rebuild of Main Street Terminal 1 (adding 1,140 feet of berth), the new Carroll Street Dock (600 feet) and an expanded rail interchange — together with a new deep-draft berth at Jefferson Terminal South is lifting capacity further.
