Managed in full since 2008 by Kazakhstan's KazTransOil, part of the KazMunayGas group, Batumi (UN/LOCODE GE BUS) on Georgia's Black Sea coast handled around 7.3 million tonnes of cargo in 2025. The port is organised into five terminals — oil, dry cargo, container, a railway-ferry crossing and a passenger terminal — across two basins. It long built its reputation on the transit of Caspian crude and Kazakh petroleum products, and still handles grain, sugar, scrap, ore, steel pipes and wood products alongside them. Its container terminal (BICT) offers two berths with 284 m of quay and roughly 230,000 TEU of annual capacity, and together with RoRo and the rail-ferry link it positions Batumi as a connector between Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Inland, the Georgian rail network carries cargo towards Tbilisi and on to the Caspian. For pure container and dry-bulk volumes, however, nearby Poti is the larger and usually first port of call, so forwarders tend to use Batumi specifically for energy, ferry and project cargo.
