Four berths for 50,000-dwt vessels, seven for 20,000-dwt ships and roughly 2,433 metres of breakwater define the rebuilt Port of Bata, mainland Equatorial Guinea's principal maritime outlet. Water depths of 16 to 18 metres handle Panamax tonnage, and the port combines a container terminal with general-cargo, tanker, reefer and bulk berths. Outbound trade is dominated by the Río Muni region's exports — tropical timber, cocoa, coffee and palm oil. Road corridors link the port inland toward Ebebiyín and the Gabon and Cameroon borders, but there is no rail freight connection. The 2014 reconstruction, a roughly US$650 million project by China's CCCC, transformed Bata from an open roadstead into a deep-water facility. For shippers, Malabo on Bioko Island and the oil port of Luba serve as the main alternatives.
