Better known for submarines than cargo, Barrow-in-Furness is first and foremost an industrial and naval port on the Cumbrian coast of the Irish Sea, dominated by BAE Systems' submarine yard in the towering Devonshire Dock Hall. For forwarders the key point is that Barrow is not a container liner port; its commercial cargo work centres on offshore wind and project loads. As the closest port to the Walney wind farm, it has supported the construction of several East Irish Sea wind farms and hosts the operations-and-maintenance bases for Ørsted and Vattenfall.
