Salmon canning built Baralof Bay on the north shore of Unga Island in Alaska's Shumagin Islands, where a Pacific American Fisheries plant ran from 1917 until the 1950s. The former cannery site (historically Squaw Harbor) now hosts a private fish-tender operation rather than a commercial freight terminal, with no handling of containers, dry bulk or customs-cleared cargo. For forwarders its commercial relevance is very limited. Regional freight moves through Sand Point, about 11 km to the north-northeast, with Dutch Harbor (Unalaska) as the wider hub.
