Crude oil, refinery products and energy cargo define Baniyas, a specialised oil port on Syria's Mediterranean coast about 35 km north of Tartus. It serves the country's largest refinery, designed for roughly 130,000 barrels per day but lately running nearer 95,000 owing to ageing plant.
