A quay of roughly 3,000 metres split across 20 berths — three for containers, five for general cargo and the rest for oil, fuel and chemicals — defines Benghazi, the principal seaport for eastern Libya. Eight transit sheds, grain silos and 250 reefer points back the berths, and nominal container capacity reaches about 120,000 TEU. Actual box traffic is far lower, however — around 16,000 TEU across some 350 calls in 2018 — so Benghazi is best read as a general-cargo and supply gateway serving Cyrenaica and regional reconstruction. The state-owned Libyan Ports Company operates the facility. Coastal trunk roads link the hinterland inland and along the shore, but there is no rail network. Given Libya's unstable conditions, customs, insurance and security should be verified carefully before any booking. For larger or time-critical container shipments, Misrata or Tripoli in the west offer stronger alternatives.
